There is something similar for mac but I haven't tried it since I have my USB dongle now: Įither setup the other potential confusing bit is getting your TX setup to output the correct stuff on the trainer port.

Took me all of 5 minutes to the USB dongle working with the same setup that took three nights to get working with smartpropoplus.Īlso, smartpropoplus doesn't work for mac users since it's a windows app. I eventually gave in a bought a $5 USB dongle from hobbyking: Īnd it fit the bill of "just works" It's still doing the same basic thing but it's doing it in hardware and takes out a lot of configuration frustration. Some sims it "just worked" others I was pulling hair trying to get it to do anything. It's confusing as all get out when the sim and smartpropo both have you calibrate your controller and both return different info about which channel is which and how it's calibrated.

With PPM (what most trainer ports use) you only get 25 steps per axis with works but it's not very smooth and I found it frustrating. Now it looks like they've made some major updates and cleaned up the docs - so it may not be as bad as it was.

I'd agree that using a real RX is the way to go.īut I'd disagree that smartpropoplus is easy to setup I'm rather technical minded and it took me three nights of fighting with windows to get it working - including having to switch windows to test mode to disable driver signing enforcement to get the joystick shim working. I had them all perfect when I put them back on. Oh, and I balanced my props on the QX3 so I'm going to take her back up this weekend and see if the warble still exists. I showed the fail's so that people could get an idea of what I went through to get it working. I just have dumb thumb at the moment with it. It's a lot like a cp helicopter so I get the theory behind it.

Only thng I don't know is how to fly without autolevel. going to reserve acro mode for the sim to be sure for a while. I've got lots of hours with multirotors flying line of site in stability mode, but even with that game controller it's just out of control tough. It is SO much easier to fly the thing with the controller. Turned out the computer was the magic trick. I can't imagine I'm the only one to have trouble with that dongle. It is cool though you took time to make a video for people that still use the old setups and for what ever reason can not use the newer and better sims that are more current.Ĭlick to expand.Agreed 100% I appreciate the props. Which at this point it is probably time for you to look for a more updated sim that is better suited for today's capabilities between radios and gear in the air. The only other time any other setup will be needed is for the antiquated programs that use proprietary connections using special made dongles.

It is super simple to set up and use and you don't have to worry about dongles or receivers and all the extra stuff using more power with more complicated setups. If your radio does not have usb the next best way is to use the trainer port that ALL radios have using a program called smartpropoplus thru your sound card. The easiest way obviously is if your radio is recognized thru a USB connection as a game controller. Using real radios for sim practice will always give the maximum benefit. But if you plan to fly real drones or planes with real controllers you will be setting yourself up for failure long term. USB game controllers are OK if you are a gamer and do not plan to fly for real.
